What is Polyurethane (PU) resin injection?

Question

What is Polyurethane (PU) resin injection?

Expert Answer
Polyurethane (PU) resin injection is the primary method for stopping water leaks in concrete. PU resins are hydrophobic and react with water. When injected into a leaking crack, the resin meets the water, expands rapidly into a foam (increasing up to 30x in volume), and cures to form a flexible, watertight seal. It is ideal for stopping gushing leaks in basements, tunnels, and manholes because it uses the water itself to catalyze the sealing process.
