The Challenge

Redeveloping and extending the former home of the National Institute for Medical Research into a new housing development included a podium deck construction with a long run of 20mm movement joints.

The deck was to provide a landscaped communal area with a basement car park below. Without the joints being waterproofed and protected as soon as possible after the concrete decks were poured, the project risked water seeping down into the future car park.

The MPS Solution

Complicating matters was the great British weather. Our installation team's experience was brought to the fore, ensuring windows in the inclement weather were used to the full to install the movement joint waterproofing on the exposed deck, rather than ploughing ahead when the rain was too heavy. This saved the need for repair work later on.

We maintained a site that was robust enough to withstand nine months of site traffic, but flexible enough to deliver on the architect's vision. With no repairs needed, following trades could get on site and in a timely fashion.
