What is an elastomeric coating?

Question

What is an elastomeric coating?

Expert Answer
An elastomeric coating is a paint-like system that forms a rubbery, flexible membrane when dry. It can stretch (elongate) by several hundred percent without breaking. This makes it perfect for bridging hairline cracks in concrete facades or roofs that experience thermal movement. Unlike rigid paints which crack as the building moves, elastomeric coatings maintain a continuous waterproof barrier.
